Specializing in interior architectural design, Wilson Associates was founded in 1975 and incorporated in 1978. To date, the firm has designed and installed more than one million guestrooms in hundreds of hotels and resorts worldwide. The firm offers a full range of interior architectural design services from initial space planning and design through construction documents and construction administration. To better service the company’s clientele, and to further facilitate the use of global resources for all clients,Wilson Associates maintains offices in Dallas, New York, Los Angeles, Singapore, Shanghai, Dubai, Paris, London, Tokyo and Bangkok.
The firm’s design philosophy is simple: design for the market. No specific “style” or “look” is attributed to the firm; rather, we create a custom project for each client and are very involved in extensive research prior to beginning the actual design process. Our designers seek to incorporate a geographical flavor into each project by the use of local craftsmen, artisans and artists and involve themselves in the custom design of architectural details, furniture and millwork, decorative lighting, carpets and fabrics.
We have consciously chosen to staff our offices with architecturally trained designers and we are therefore able to design holistically – in three dimensions as opposed to simply decorating surfaces, pay careful attention to scale and proportion, and to coordinate and integrate our interior designs seamlessly with the building’s architectural, mechanical and structural systems.
We pride ourselves on our business approach to design and are able to intelligently discuss and appreciate the commercial and financial objectives of our clients. Our design team is dedicated to making a meaningful contribution to our client’s ability to achieve a positive return on their investment, and this effort goes well beyond the mantra of “on time and on budget.”
Our specialty Food & Beverage studio, Blueplate , oversees the conceptualization and execution of all specialty F&B outlets we design, and can also provide innovative culinary concepts as well as branding, logos, uniforms, tabletop selections, menu creation and layouts, kitchen planning, and even financial projections and ROI analysis. Therefore, Wilson Associates can offer our clients a complete “one-stop shop” for all F&B related services. Blue Plate Studios is also headquartered in Singapore.
As a result of our commitment to providing world-class design, Wilson Associates is consistently named as one of the top interior design firms in the world by industry professionals, and receives top honors annually for both new construction and historical renovation. For decades, Wilson Associates has been chosen by industry peers as most respected for our work in luxury hospitality design and we are a 40+ time winner of the prestigious “Gold Key Award” for excellence in hotel design given by the American Hotel and Motel Association annually.
Wilson Associates employs a worldwide staff of over 300 professionals including registered architects, accredited interior designers, design assistants, artists, project managers, technical and administrative staff.
At Wilson Associates our design philosophy is simple – we design for the client, for the market.
For each of our clients we create a custom project, which is based on an involved research program, prior to the commencement of the actual design process. Our research covers art and cultural influences, local building materials and construction capabilities. Our research also gathers design inspiration, which broadens our perspective.
We bring to our projects extensive international experience, which provides a substantial resource of new ideas, and design techniques, which all contribute to the distinctive nature of each project.
Typically, the design process begins with a kick-off meeting with all team members present, and this establishes a team spirit, rapport and project philosophy. Together we reach an understanding of the client’s goals, needs, budget parameters and other pertinent issues.
We believe in the strength of a team design, the skills of all members melded together to create a balanced designing talent. Our team is organized according to each individual’s strengths in relation to the particular project. This team remains in place for the duration of the project – concept to installation.
We prefer to be involved in every aspect of the project design, including graphics/signage, tableware and uniforms. By designing a total experience and feel, it ensures that the desired message is communicated in every aspect of a guest’s visit.
Our role is important in uniting the architectural expression, interior with exterior. Intensive work sessions between designer, architect, client and operator are instrumental in the development of the design. These work sessions include loose design presentations, during which general design direction is established and the design concept is advanced to a more realistic perception, through photos of design detail and various sources of design inspiration.
With over 40 years experience in the hospitality design field, we are proud of our development of an integrated communications system linking our offices around the world. We not only communicate frequently via phone, fax and email, but also interface with the project architect and other disciplines such as MEP and structural engineers, lighting and graphics consultants, etc. by utilizing the most current technology available. We have found that this ability to efficiently communicate, combined with a genuine care for the project, offers our clients the best resources available in architectural and interior design.
Wilson Associates has invested significant time and effort to build relationships with manufacturers worldwide. We draw on these global resources in order to achieve the best product available for the budget. When importing furnishings or materials is cost prohibitive, we work with and expand on the capabilities of the local manufacturers and craftsmen. This exemplifies our corporate philosophy of “It Can Be Done.”
Wilson Associates combines the skills of both architects and interior designers to produce a thoroughly integrated design product.
COST AND SCHEDULE
During the design phases of the project, Wilson Associates works closely with the client and other consultants to establish a detailed project budget and schedule. Our professional services contract clearly states that it is our responsibility to design within the prescribed budget parameters and to offer the client creative solutions within the budget and schedule constraints. We expect an open and honest dialogue with construction manager and quantity surveyor in order to monitor design conformance to budget.
Should a fellow consultant delay the team’s progress, we will immediately contact the client in the interest of reaching an efficient solution.
We understand that design is a business as well as an art and constantly strive to manage projects in the most efficient manner possible.
Wilson Associates takes great pride in our technical proficiency in the area of computers as related to the interior architectural design of a project. We are currently operating on the latest version of AutoCAD and have extensive Internet capabilities allowing communication and transferring of files among design team members, consultants and client to be handled in an efficient and expeditious manner.
From our experience in the region, we have found that the most extensive “hands-on” phase of the project is not design and coordination, but the construction and installation phase. In many ways the design and implementation phase is the most important of the project. The attention to detail and execution of the design are of utmost importance. Members of the project team will make periodic site visits and this, coupled with the presence of an on-site representative, will ensure that the outcome is consistent with the design intent. The site representative is an integral member of the team who is involved in the project from the early stages. This person inherits the “history” of the project and is able to make decisions
consistent with the design intent and established goals for the project. We believe that ultimately a creative design is only as good as its implementation.
Wilson Associates is committed to integrating the principles of sustainable design into all aspects of its practice. Wilson Associates pledges to educate all employees and clients about sustainable design and to initiate a dialogue about environmental impact and sustainable alternatives both within the firm and with our clients and suppliers. The Wilson Foundation reaches beyond design to help provide disadvantaged children opportunities for sustainable lives.
