Quarta & Armando Architecture Design Research

Founded in 2016 by architects Gianmaria Quarta and Michele Armando, Quarta & Armando is an architecture, design and research office based in Shanghai, China with one additional office in Turin, Italy.

Collaborative, process-oriented and idea-driven, Q&A’s goal is finding original asnwers to significant questions by means of architectural design.

Strategically located in Shanghai, Q&A draws inspiration from being in the crossing center between different cultures and ideas while rooting its approach in the attention for materials and details.

Responding to the ever-changing environment in which it operates,
Q&A integrates poetic vision and pragmatism into a way of working which is on one hand very meticulous, almost scientific, and on the other hand always playful.

Starting by defining a precise set of rules and then playing with and within them Q&A uses complexity and hybridization as a raw materials to be exhibited.

Each project is treated individually to respond to site, location and client brief, constructing original, tailor-made narratives. By managing all design phases from Concept to Schematic to Construction, the studio guarantees consistent quality from the original vision to the final built result.
